Miss Earth beauties up close though not personal

An attempt at taking photos using my old cell phone. Don't worry, the rest of the photos are from the official Miss Earth Facebook page.

TRYING not to act too excited when a delegation of eight Miss Earth contestants entered Cafe Uno at the Waterfront Cebu lobby and sat down in front of us yesterday (November 24, 2011), I kept sitting down at the center table and just stretched out my arms to take pictures for his post.

After all, I told myself, the pictures are proofs that I was actually there as press photographers and television cameramen positioned themselves for vantage points.

There in front of us sat in elegant, beauty pageant poses were Canada (Ashlea Moor), Miss Turkey (Merve Saribas), India (Hasleen Kaur), Sweden (Renate Cerljen), Singapore (Felicia Orvalla), China (Yu Jun Liu), England (Roxanne Smith), and USA (Nicole Kelley).

Looking self conscious at the left beside Miss Canada sat Glenn Vallecera of Philippine Airlines (PAL) Cebu office. Looking on was PAL’s VP for corporate communications Joey G. de Guzman.

PAL, the country’s flag carrier, had brought the delegation to Central Visayas for a video featuring the region’s tourist attractions. After spending a day in the plush Maribago Baywaters in Lapu-Lapu City Wednesday, the beauties went on a heritage tour in Cebu City yesterday.

After meeting members of the local media at lunch, the ladies will proceed to Panglao, Bohol.

The flag carrier will undertake an aggressive tourism publicity and promotion campaign using the video materials featuring the Miss Earth beauties.

During the press conference, PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said selling Cebu  as a destination for 26 international is a priority.

The Miss Earth beauty pageant is now on its 11th year and originally, it was slated in Bangkok this year but flooding at the major provinces of Thailand forced organizers to relocate it in the Philippines.  PAL’s de Guzman said the Philippine flag carrier came to help out to make the Philippine hosting the pageant a success.

This year’s pageant theme focuses on “The Earth is Crying. Let the Earth Smile Again” calling attention on saving the environment from degradation.

During the pageant’s coronation night on December 3, the reigning Miss Eaqrth Nicole Faria of India will turnover her crown to the new Miss Earth. This year’s Philippine candidate is Athena Mae Imperial.
